Austin Texas has been described as "a blueberry in the tomato soup." This is saying that it is a blue (liberal) city in a red (conservative) state. The attraction of this is that it created a very unique blend of individuals, cultures, and ideas in Austin. The state of Texas is known to be for cowboys and conservatives but Austin is kinda hippyish and artsy. BTW, who says cowboys cannot be hippies and artists?! The cowboy/hippie city is awesome and has an energy all its own! If you have ever heard the song Hippies and Cowboys by Cody Jinks, Austin reminds me a bit of that song.
